Net Metering

What is Net Metering?

Net metering is an electricity policy that allows you to produce electricity (using solar energy) for your own use and export the excess energy produced to the national grid. This results in setting-off units against the electricity consumed during off-peak hours. In this way, you will either pay a reduced utility bill or get paid for excess energy exported to the grid.

In 2015, NEPRA issued its net metering regulations that allow the DISCOs in Pakistan to purchase excess electricity units produced by consumers and net them off against the units consumed from the grid.

Key Facts

  • Allowed under NEPRA Net Metering Regulations (2015)
  • DISCOs purchase your excess electricity units
